Plasma Hair Restoration Follicle stimulating treatment

Restore, thicken, and strengthen hair.

The treatment

What it is, and how it works

Treatment Details

Plasma Hair Restoration, also known as Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, is a non-surgical treatment that uses the patient's own blood plasma to promote hair growth and prevent hair loss.

How it Works

The concentrated plasma, which is rich in platelets and growth factors, is injected into the scalp using fine needles where hair loss is most prominent. The growth factors in the plasma stimulate the hair follicles to grow thicker, stronger hair.

Before, during and after

  1. 01

    Pre-Treatment

Your clinician will assess your hair loss condition and determine whether PRP therapy is a suitable treatment option for you.

    • Before the treatment, it's important to avoid medications that may increase the risk of bleeding, such as blood thinners, anti-inflammatory drugs, and aspirin.
    • Avoid alcohol for at least 48 hours before the treatment, as this can increase the risk of bleeding and affect the quality of the blood plasma.
    • Avoid smoking for at least 2 weeks before the treatment.
    • It's recommended that patients wash their hair the night before and avoid the use of styling products 3 days leading up to treatment.

    During Treatment

The procedure usually takes around 60 to 90 minutes to complete.

    • First, blood is drawn from your arm. The blood is then placed in a centrifuge machine to separate the plasma from the rest of the blood components.
    • The concentrated plasma, which is rich in platelets and growth factors, is then injected into the scalp using fine needles. The injections can be uncomfortable, so we numb the area before treatment to help ease any pain.
    • The growth factors present in the plasma stimulate the hair follicles to grow thicker, stronger hair and prevent further hair loss.

    Post-Treatment

We recommend at least 3 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart for best results, then continuing single treatments every 4-6 months.

    • There is no downtime, so you can return to their normal activities immediately after the treatment.
    • While you can resume normal activities, you can expect some degree of soreness, swelling, itching and bruising at the injection sites which typically heal over 2-5 days.
    • Results are visible 3-6 months after your first treatment. Even beyond this time frame, the Plasma Hair Restoration will continue to help stimulate growth for the next 6-9 months.

Common questions

What is Plasma Hair Restoration

Plasma Hair Restoration uses platelet-rich plasma, a substance in your blood that is rich with growth factors which trigger cell reproduction and stimulate tissue regeneration. It has been used to treat joints and skin but also has been discovered to preserve and stimulate hair growth when injected into the scalp.

Your visit starts with a blood draw by an experienced clinician. This sample is then specially processed to isolate the plasma component of your blood. The clinician then uses a potent topical cream to numb your scalp at the areas intended for treatment.

Small amounts of your platelet-rich plasma are then injected into the scalp skin, with the number of injections varying from person to person.

This treatment delivers growth factors and increases blood flow to hair follicles, stimulating growth for new and existing hair.

Is there downtime?

While you can resume normal activities, you can expect some degree of soreness, swelling, itching and bruising at the injection sites which typically heal over 2-5 days. Lighter soreness may continue for 1-2 weeks.

Is it safe?

Plasma Hair Restoration is nonsurgical, with no significant safety risks. The most common side effects are mild pain, redness, and pinpoint bleeding in the injection sites. Risks of infection and bleeding are very low with appropriate hygiene.

When will I see results?

Typically results are visible 3-6 months after your first treatment. Even beyond this time frame, the Plasma Hair Restoration will continue to help stimulate growth for the next 6-9 months. The level of improvement you’ll see depends on factors like amount, spacing, and timing of your hair loss.

How long do Plasma Hair Restoration results last?

The usual recommended regimen is 3-6 treatments with one session every 4-6 weeks. Maintenance sessions are then recommended every 4-6 months for optimal results. The routine and outcomes vary person to person, but your Modern Age clinician can help determine what is best for you.
