Pre-Treatment
We can’t wait to see you! Follow these tips before your visit.
- Avoid alcoholic beverages for 2 days before - it can decrease your chances of bruising.
- Avoid taking aspirin and ibuprofen for at least a week before your appointment as these medications can increase the risk of bleeding or bruising.
- Strenuous exercise can increase blood flow and the risk of bruising, so it's best to avoid it for at least 24 hours before and after your treatment.
- 02
During Treatment
Every appointment starts with a consultation to understand your skin goals and personalize the treatment to you.
- Once you’re ready, your clinician will numb the area with a topical anesthetic, then inject the filler in the desired area.
- Using a very thin needle, your clinician will inject the area several times for even distribution and best results.
- Do dermal filler injections hurt? The experience of receiving dermal filler injections can vary from person to person. Most patients report that the procedure is generally well-tolerated and not overly painful.
- 03
Post-Treatment
You can expect to see some initial improvement immediately after the treatment, with continued improvement over the following weeks. Your results can last anywhere from 6 months to a year.
- For the next 24 hours: Avoid exercising, drinking alcohol, touching the treated area, sun exposure and heat
- For the next 24-48 hours: Applying ice to the treated area can help to reduce swelling and discomfort. Use an ice pack or cold compress for 10-15 minutes at a time, several times a day.
- For the next week: Avoid facials and exfoliating

Common questions
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable substances used to fill wrinkles, fine lines, and other face areas that have lost volume due to aging or other factors. They are typically made of hyaluronic acid, which occurs naturally in the body and helps keep skin plump and hydrated.
What is the treatment process like?
Most filler treatments take between 15 and 30 minutes, plus 30 minutes of numbing beforehand. Before getting the injections, you may need ice, an anesthetic applied to the skin, or a nerve block injection, depending on the filler and the treated area. Your clinician will inject the filler into the area, often giving you several injections to produce the best results.
Is there downtime?
Fillers typically require minimal downtime, but we do recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, alcohol, or makeup for 24 hours after your treatment. You also might experience some bruising, redness, or swelling. To reduce these effects, your clinician may recommend icing the area for 15 to 20 minutes before you leave.
How long do results last?
Results usually last anywhere from 6 to 18 months. This depends on the filler used and the specifics of your treatment.
What are possible side effects?
After receiving filler injections, some people have minor, temporary side effects such as redness, swelling, tenderness, or occasional bruising.
When will I see results after getting a filler?
You’ll see results from the filler almost immediately. Because fillers can also stimulate your body to produce collagen, your skin’s appearance will continue improving.
What brands of fillers do you offer?
We offer a few different brands of fillers. Your Modern Age clinician can help you understand your options and choose the right one during your appointment. Here is some information on the brands we offer.
